"I suddenly want to move to Tokyo and spend the next year taking calligraphy classes here. I didn't have the foggiest clue about not one bit of the Japanese language or any of the characters used in it. Not one clue. But I came with an open mind and willingness to fail miserably, and I left with a real fondness for this. I learned enough in an hour to produce the attached card. Okay, it may not be the most beautiful depiction of the character ever drawn, but it looks swell to me. I made that!!! I was totally afraid of this challenge, but I felt so good afterward. I feel like I learned so much in that short amount of time. I wish I could go once a week now!!
It's very easy to get here by subway from almost anywhere. It's just hard to find the actual building when you are at the address. It's on the 2nd floor in a building off the main road just a little - it's a bit hard to find - has pretty things in the window, that may help guide you. Worth finding!
If you have an artistic soul, this is the activity for you. Mature children would enjoy this very much as well. This seems like a great way to meditate once you get the rythm of the strokes down."
